dc.description.abstractThe strategy adopted in managing human resources has a great influence on the performance of the workers. This study assessed motivation as a management strategy to improve productivity in construction project sites. Productivity of construction operatives has been established to be very low due to poor motivation. The objective of this study is to identify the motivation factors that enhance performance of construction workers on sites in Abuja. This study is quantitatively conducted through questionnaire administered to management, supervisors and craftsmen in the selected construction firms in Abuja. The study adopted both descriptive methods of analysis. The study identified 26 motivational factors enhancing the productivity of construction workers in the study area. Among the motivational factors enhancing productivity identified is good work environment and opportunity to be promoted and move forward in the carrier was ranked 1 with a mean score of 4.40, followed by satisfaction derived from work itself that was ranked second with a mean score of 4.30. The groups of respondents that is management, supervisors and craftsmen agreed on the ranking of the motivational factors. The study concludes that if the identified motivational factors are adopted, they would help to enhance the productivity of workers. The study therefore recommends that there should be a better, effective, prompt promotion and prompt developmental training. These would definitely motivate and increase the performance of the workers.en_US
