Abstract: This study examines entrepreneurship in Nigeria's context in view of the transition economy. It attempts to determine the extent the concepts developed in a market economy which was appropriate for analyzing entrepreneurship in the transition context appropriate for the Nigeria context . Furthermore to examine the extent of the entrepreneurial behaviour in Nigeria. The main concepts considered are the opportunity and necessity - entrepreneurship as well as the entrepreneur and the proprietor. The findings from existing literature confirm that there a lot of similarities between Nigeria and the transition economy. Certain recommendations were postulated and suggestion for further research is made that other concepts be considered in the light of the Nigeria context.
