dc.description.abstractElectronic cards like magnetic cards and smart cards have been used worldwide for different functions such as electronic payment system (credit card and debit/ATM cards), electronic voting system, personnel identification system and security system. In this paper, we present an electronic card-based solution to the lecture attendance problem in higher institutions in the developing countries. Ours is based on single-chip computer based subsystems interfaced serially to the serial port of the digital computer. The developed system could speed up the process of taking students lecture attendance and allows for error free and faster verification process of authenticating student lecture attendance policy required for writing examination in a campus environment.en_US
