Abstract: Friction stir welding is a solid-state joining technique which involves the plastic deformation of materials to create a solid joint. The tool generates the temperature and pressure to create the solid joints. The process can be used for joining both similar and dissimilar materials. This review addressed the friction stir welding of some selected high strength aluminium alloys. These alloys are used for applications where premium is placed on high strength to weight ratio, thus making them suitable for the aerospace industry where weight reduction is of great importance.
