This ongoing project aimed to address the challenge of health, safety and environmental hazard in machining by formulating Metal Working Fluid (MWF) from green materials as an alternative to petroleum based cutting fluids. The qualities of green base oils extracts are improved by addition of green-base additives to meet the requisite standards comparable to the commercial Metal Working Fluid (MWF). The base oil chosen for the study are soya bean and groundnut oil, while the additives are extracts from Tobacco, Garlic and Neem. Each additive possesses one or more of antioxidants, Extreme Pressure (EP) Biocidal and Anti corrosive characteristics. The physiochemical analysis of the formulated cutting fluid compared favourably with that stipulated in the standard thus demonstarting suitability for safe machining.en_US
