Using a set of cross country data and a multiple regression analysis, the study examined the determinants of human development in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The result indicated that factors like the extent of conflicts, the occurrence of natural disaster, external debt crisis, macroeconomic instability , international trade, lack of access to water and prevalence of HIV/AIDS impacted negatively on human development in the subregion. Given these results, measures, such as, the provision of human security, human empowerment, against corruption and the prevention, management and treatment of HIV/AIDS were suggested as possible solutions to human development in SSA.en_US
