Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the entrepreneurial skills required by Higher National Diploma Building Technology Graduate for self reliance in Niger State and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Two research questions and hypotheses guided the study. The study made use of survey research design. It was carried out in Niger State and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The population of the study was 67 subjects made up of 30 clients and 37 contractors. There was no sampling due to relatively small size of the population. The instrument used for data collection was a 33 structured questionnaire which was validated by three experts. Cronbatch alpha reliability method was adopted to determine the internal consistency of the questionnaire items; a cronbatch alpha coefficient of 0.83 was obtained. Sixty-seven copies of the instrument were administered. All the sixty-seven copies of the instrument were retrieved and analysed using weighted mean and standard deviation while the hypotheses were tested using t-test statistic. It was found out that all the 33 questionnaire items identified as the entrepreneurial skills required by HND Building Technology Graduates to start business of building construction after graduation as well factors that impede the success were genuine. It was also found out from the hypotheses tested that there is no significant difference in the mean rating of clients and contractors in the 33 questionnaire items. The study therefore recommended that government should provide initial capital in form of soft loan with little or no interest to the HND Building Technology Graduates who intend floating their entrepreneurship as soon as they graduate and the polytechnic institutions should be organizing entrepreneurship skills week for the students on the programme to be properly enlighten.
