Abstract The ability of opposite decision is essential to the achievement of an organization. Decision-making necessitates the documentation of all alternatives to the solution of the problem and selecting the best of the available alternatives. The application of optimization techniques helps seek the optimal choice from among several possible alternatives causes of action. This research work aims to determine the optimum number of directorate members (Directors, Deputy Director, Assistant Directors, Senior Managers, Manager, Deputy Managers and Assistant Managers) to be selected for a departmental training program, from amongst the twenty-eight departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Abuja, with the intent to minimize the cost of training whenever the need for such arises. This research work presents mathematical optimization models for each of the five directorates of the CBN. Integer Linear Programming (ILP), an optimization technique (with the aid of excel LP solver), is used to solve the models to achieve the optimum results. The results obtained from these models offer little consideration to staff at the levels of senior manager and above, so we recommend that the management of CBN should consider organizing separate development programmes for these categories of staff.
