Abstract: This study examines entrepreneurship in Nigeria context. Entrepreneurship is a multifaceted phenomenon cutting across discipline and at three distinctive levels. It expatiates the role of entrepreneurship in an economy with emphasis on the social and economic benefit. The evolution of entrepreneurship in Nigeria considering the pre-colonial, colonial and post-independence era is attended to. The scope of the governmental intervention in entrepreneurship was evaluated. This paper attempts to determine the extent at which the entrepreneurial concepts are appropriate for analysing entrepreneurship in the Nigeria context. Furthermore, it tries to examine the extent of the common pattern of entrepreneurial behaviour in Nigeria. The main concepts considered are the opportunity and necessity entrepreneurship as well as the entrepreneur and the proprietor. The findings from existing literature reveal that the concepts are quite appropriate for entrepreneurship in Nigeria context and behavioural patterns are common in Nigeria too. Certain recommendations were postulated and suggestion for further researched made that other concepts be considered in the light of the Nigeria context.
