Abstract: This paper examines the application of computer in environmental management particularly in the area of artificial intelligence, which is the application of computer technology to simulate thought and judgement. The paper defines environmental management, hazards, computer and artificial intelligence. It appreciates the usage of expert system, which is one of the areas of artificial intelligence in environmental management. It examines the environmental hazards such as physical, chemical and biological hazards and their adverse health effects. This paper explains the three components of expert system, which are knowledge base, working memory and inference. It also explains the prospects of expert system in managing environmental hazards and its challenges and shows that using artificial intelligence in environmental management will help in managing environmental hazards.
