This paper analyses and simulate the behavior of the doubly-fed Induction Generator (DFIG). It implements the grid and rotor side control strategy of the DFIG using appropriate function blocks in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The performances of the rotor speed, DC link Voltage, rotor active and reactive power and the grid current were evaluated. The response of the rotor speed after wind speed changed from 8m/s to 10m/s is presented. The DC link voltage is controlled to a constant value of 1150V to keep rotor power constant while the reactive power is regulated to 0 VAR thereby ensuring that no reactive power is exchange with the grid. A rise in the rotor active power with reduced torque was observed wit the step change in speed. In this work, an adequate description of the solution of the model of the DFIG is presented along with a clear procedure on how to obtain the controller gains for the current control loops. .en_US
