Title: REMOTE SENSING AND GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) APPLICATION IN LAND USE MAPPING A CASE STUDY OF KADUNA AND ENVIRONS
Authors: CHRISTPHER, GIDEON USMAN
Issue Date: Mar-2000
Abstract: ABSTRACT As an option to a more traditional approach for different kinds of planning work and studies, computer assisted Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing has been applied more frequently. This is due to the increasing capacity of modern computer and the development of specialized and user-friendly software. The need for an assessment of extent of environmental degradation in Kaduna and environs through the use of Remote Sensing and GIS is crucial. This study examined the use of Remote Sensing and GIS in land use mapping. From data acquisition or collection to data input and analysis using the appropriate hardware and software, which include arcinfo, ERDAS Imagine, and arcview. Although we still do not have an accurate assessment of land use and no systematic monitoring is yet in place, these innovative studies have provided us with a sound basis for future work or study vi
