Abstract: This research work was aimed at understanding the effect of pore-structure-related parameters of packed structures on their sound absorption properties and obtaining optimum operating conditions when applied to cut down incidence pressure wave from a source. The feasibility of COMSOL Multiphysics software for modelling and optimization of packed spheres for the purpose of minimizing sound pollution was studied and condition for best results was established. Attenborough model gave the best absorption result when compared with experimental result and also the influence of the key pore structure related parameters which are void fraction and particle size on the normal incidence sound absorption spectra was also predicted using numerical simulation. A suitable permeability constant value was also determined and a near-perfect sound absorption condition was determined. This research presents the optimum condition and model for sound absorption on packed spheres. As well as a comprehensive instant for the application of packed spheres in manufacturing an efficient sound absorption setup with respect to packed spheres.
