Abstract: The Nigerian farmers face problems of pest management, weed management, crop health management, labour shortages, resource waste and enviromental damage due to use of heavy machinery. Providing solutions to these problems are of utmost importance. This paper presents a brief review of agricultural robots with emphasis on outdoor mobile robots. The review looks at the history and the present trends in the field and subsequently highlights the design essentials for an agricultural mobile robot. The design challenges such as the dynamic farm enviroment, the path planning and navigation problem is discussed. Current state of developed robots is also briefly higlighted.
