Abstract: This paper takes a look at distributed database systems and its implementation and suitability to the academic environment of Nigeria tertiary institutions. It also takes cognizance of network operating system since the implementation of distributed database system highly depends upon computer networks. A simplified model of a prototype is offered for implementation by any tertiary institution. Literature search, internal and external data were used and Microsoft Visual FoxPro 6.0 was the language of implementation for the proposed model.
