In this age of Electronic connectivity, the issue of data security is becoming more and more of great concern. The growth in computer systems and their interconnections via networks has increased the dependence of several organizations and individuals on information stored and communicated using these systems. Hence, there is need for data and resources to be well protected to guarantee its authenticity and to protect systems from network-based attacks. Cryptography and network security have matured, leading to the development of practical, readily available applications to enforce network security. This work covered a review of the concept of randomness with the stringent randomness requirement in data security systems giving particular attention to the Blum-Blum-Shub random number generator.en_US
