Abstract: This paper aims to determine empirically the labour output for selected masonry works at the substructural level in ongoing construction sites in Abuja, the north central zone of Nigeria. The absence of empirical standards of masons output on construction sites which usually generates conflicts when preparing units rates for labour items necessitates the study. 70 gang sizes of masons were purposively sampled in randomly sampled ongoing construction sites in Abuja. The site influencing factor on labour output (geographical and physical locations, wages and years of experience and site weather) were taken in consideration during observations of gang of masons on site. The observation were taken with the aid of stop clock, visual recording and measurement of works done per day. The ouput of masons were determined based on the quality of work done vis a vis the actual time taken to perform the task with due consideration of above mention site factors. This study concludes that gang size (number of masons and unskilled labourer) play a major role in determining the daily labour output in sub structural operation on Nigeria construction sites providing all influencing factors remain constant.
