| Abstract: | The advent of ICTs has resulted into a polemical discourse on the potentials of new media technologies as vehicle for social change and development among media scholars. The obvious manifestations of these technologies can be seen in education, commerce, banking and the media; they have become drivers of development. This paper explores the value of new media technologies in societal development. It discusses how new media technologies can be used to foster sustainable development. Anchored on literature modelling as methodology, and the development media theory as theoretical foundation, the paper concludes that Nigeria’s quest for development and the sustainability of such development rest with the appropriate use of new media technologies to promote such ends. |
