Abstract: The changing patterns in the workplace caused by advancement in technology and the current economic situation have exerted pressure upon individuals to maximize their work skills. Besides, it is obvious that the formal school system cannot provide all the knowledge and skills the students need for their entire career. This brings into focus the importance of Lifelong Learning Skills as a means of enabling students to cope with rapidly changing demands and to survive in the workplace when they eventually take employment. Therefore, this paper reviewed literature on the need for improving work skills and competencies of technical college students in Nigeria through lifelong learning. The paper looked at the concept of lifelong learning, work skills and competency. The need for lifelong learning by technical college student was also discussed and recommendations on the way forward were suggested.
