Abstract

Nigeria is a developing country in Africa with many resources but has low level of productivity and mismanagement of these resources. Poverty is at the top of the major challenges retarding the rapid socio- economic growth and development of the Nigerian society. Government at various tiers had formulated policies, programs and strategies for eradicating and or/ reducing poverty in Nigerian society. The book highlighted and discussed the concepts of public library, its functions, poverty eradication, poverty eradication programs in Nigeria. It also deliberated on the contributions of public libraries toward eradicating poverty in the 21st century in the Nigerian society which includes: serve as centers for entrepreneurship training, the provision of indexing and abstracting services, provision of pictures/images services, exhibition, photocopying and social media services among others.
