Item Implementing Competency-Based Education and Training in Technical Colleges: A Realistic Approach to Producing Workforce for Sustainable Development(Industrial Technology Education Journal, 2021) Eze, C. P.; Mojekwe, O. E.; Omeje, H. O.; Igwe C. P.This study focused on how the implementation of Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) in Technical Colleges would help in producing skilled workforce for sustainable industrial development. Two research questions and two null hypotheses tested at .05 level of significance guided the study. The population of this study consisted of 168 TVET trainers in all the twelve Government Technical Colleges and Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC) in Anambra State. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 84 TVET trainers from six Technical Colleges including FSTC, Awka (56 Technical Teachers and 28 Instructors). A 24-item structured questionnaire tagged “Competency Based Education and Training Skills Questionnaire” (CBETSQ) was used for data collection. The instrument was validated and the reliability coefficient was established at 0.80 using Cronbach Alpha technique. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while t-test statistics was used to analyze data from the null hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The study revealed among others, that TVET trainers have limited awareness and understanding of CBET concept hence they showed little knowledge of its use. Some challenges such as inadequate human and material resources occasioned by inadequate funding were found. It is therefore recommended that TVET Trainers and students should be inducted into CBET with adequate resources so as to enable Technical College graduates contribute to the national and industrial development of Nigeria.Item Evaluation of the implementation of procurement planning in the award of building contracts in Federal Universities in North Central Nigeria(Benue State University Journal of Education (BSUJE), 2020) Agonsi, R. I.; Akanmu, W. P.; Mohammed, B. M.; Igwe, C. O.This study evaluated the implementation of procurement planning in the award of building contracts in Federal University in North Central, Nigeria. One research question and one null hypothesis guided the study. The study employed descriptive survey research design. The population for the study was 71 respondents which consisted of 17 Bureau of public procurement staff and 54 procuring entities in Federal University in North Central. The instrument used for data collection was a 17 items questionnaire. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was established to be 0.82 using Cronbach Alpha formula. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation for answering research questions and t-test for testing the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that some procurement planning processes as provided in PPA were not implemented. It was revealed that the procurement planning committee did not have a representative of technical personnel of the University with expertise in the subject matter as a member amongst others. Based on the findings, it was therefore recommended that since timely delivery of building contract can be ensured through identification of procurement needs of the University at an opportune time, adequate procurement planning such as early identification of contract financial implication, financial threshold, approval process and timescale schedule was carried out so as to curtail political bottlenecks that impeded PPA implementation. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The population for the study was 71 respondents which consist of 17 bureau of public procurement staff and 54 procuring entities in Federal Universities in North Central. The instrument used for data collection was a 17 items questionnaire with a four-point rating scale and has response options of Adequately Implemented (AI), Implemented (I), Not Implemented (NI) and Highly Not Implemented (HNI). To ensure the validity of the instrument it was subjected to content validity by three subject matter experts after which their suggestions and corrections were reflected on the final copy of the instrument that was used for data collection. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was established to be 0.86 using the Cronbach Alpha formula. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation for answering research questions and t-test statistics for testing the null hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that building contractors in the Universities are not adequately pre-qualified and contractors documents are not tendered as spelt out in PPA of 2007. Based on the findings, it is therefore recommended that contractors in the building industry should aspire to understand the essence of tendering document in the award of building contracts and thereafter ensure that their document meet the requirement of every building contract provision before tendering such document for building contract bidding in the UniversityItem Assessment of the Implementation of Policies on Public Housing Projects in Nigeria(International Journal of Engineering Research & Technology, 2021) Igwe, C.O.; Alaezi, J.O.; Nwekete, C.J.; Odu, O.K.The paper assessed the implementation of policies on public housing projects in Nigeria. Three research questions and three hypotheses were raised to guide the study. The study adopted cross-sectional type of descriptive research design. The 200 copies of the questionnaire were administered on the respondents with the help of two research assistants. 135 copies of the questionnaire administered were retrieved and analyzed. The entire population of the study was 135 respondents consisting of 100 residents and 35 stakeholders in Nigeria were used for the study. A total of 37 items, developed from the literature reviewed for the study was used to collect data from the respondents. Each questionnaire was divided into three categories on the assessment of the implementation of policies on public housing projects in Nigeria. The questionnaire was also subjected to validation for accuracy. Descriptive statistics such as simple percentages was used to analyse the breakdown of the questionnaire, the profile of the respondents, their organisation and gender. The findings of the research revealed that; there are awareness of Nigeria government policies on public housing projects, there is no implementation of Nigeria government policies on public housing projects, although there are challenges that militating against the effective implementation of Nigeria government policies on public housing projects in Nigeria. Based on the findings it was recommended that; the Nigeria government should create awareness through ministry of housing corporation to the residential building occupants and set up some committees or taskforce to implement the Nigeria government policies on public housing projects on the residential building and the stakeholders in Nigeria.Item Assessment of Wood Waste Management Practices in Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Minna, Niger State.(International Institute for Science, Technology and Education, 2023-06) Franca Chinenye Nwankwo; Robert Okwori; Bala Maik Mohammed; Christopher Obeta IgweThe purpose of the study is to assess the management practices adopted by small and medium scale enterprises in managing wood waste in Nigeria. Wood waste mismanagement is a serious environmental threat in Niger State. The evident disposal of wood wastes on the streets, water bodies and the open air burning indicates that wood waste management practices which includes the collection, disposal, recycling and reuse of wood waste are inefficient and insufficient and therefore will pose a great threat the sustenance of Nigerian timber forests, human health and environmental balance. The objectives of the study are to identify: wood waste collection practices, wood waste recycling practices and wood waste disposal practices in SMEs in Niger State. The study adopted Survey research design. Data were collected from administration of questionnaire.The population of the study was 17 respondents. The respondents were drawn from six medium scale enterprises and 11 small scale enterprises in Minna, Niger State. Survey was carried out to identify SMEs in the study area. The respondents for the study were drawn from 6 medium scale enterprises and 11 small scale enterprises. The total population was used for the study hence there was no sampling technique. Data collected from the questionnaire was analyzed using Mean and Standard deviation and t-test. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions, while t-test was used to test the Null Hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study on wood waste collection revealed that wood waste generated in SMEs are collected by poultry and animal farmers and used as animal beddings and others are collected by households and used as cooking fuel, the remnant of the wastes are burnt while others are used as landfills. The findings also revealed that wood waste are not collected by waste collection agencies nor composite boards manufacturing industries. The findings on wood waste recycling practices revealed that there are facilities for recycling, treatment and sorting of wood waste in Minna. In addition, there are wood waste disposal, storage or incineration facilities in Minna. Therefore, this study recommends that the agencies and bodies that are mandated to check and regulate wood waste should be appraised annually to ensure that their duties are effectively carried out. It is also important that necessary facilities for waste collection, storage and recycling should be made available in Niger State by the government so as to maximize wood waste utilization and create wealth and jobs in the state.Item Information Service Delivery in University Libraries: The Role of Cloud Computing Applications(10th Hybrid International Conference of the School of Science and Technology Education (SSTE), 2024) Mafi, A. G.The advent of cloud computing has revolutionised information service delivery in university libraries thereby offering unprecedented scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. This paper explores the concept of and types of information services delivery in university libraries, the concept of cloud computing applications, and cloud computing service models such as software-as-a-service (SaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS), and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) models. In addition, its benefits such as scalability and cost efficiency, data management and preservation, collaborative tools and resource sharing, as well as digital preservation and archiving, were highlighted. By analyzing existing literature and empirical studies, the research identified significant benefits, including reduced financial wastage on IT investments and improved user experiences. However, challenges such as security, privacy, and limited accessibility remain prevalent. This study aims to bridge the knowledge gap regarding the integration of cloud computing in university libraries, where traditional practices often hinder effective information service delivery. The findings underscore the necessity for strategic implementation of cloud technologies to optimize resource utilisation and enhance user satisfaction. Ultimately, this paper contributes to the ongoing discourse on technological integration in academic libraries by providing insights that can inform future research and development initiatives.Item The Impact of School Library Services On Literacy Development And Academic Performance Of Secondary School Students In Niger State(Information Technology and Librarianship, 2023) Ogunbekun, R. C.; Umunnakwe, G.; Iwuagwu, P.I.This study aims to investigate the impact of school library services on the literacy development and academic performance among secondary school students in Niger State, Nigeria. The problem statement highlighted the persistent issue of poor academic performance in national examinations, despite ongoing efforts by the government and local communities to improve the education system. The research objectives aimed to determine the impact of school libraries on academic performance, identify challenges faced by these libraries, and propose strategies for enhancing both literacy development and academic achievement. The research methodology employed a questionnaire survey design, utilizing simple random sampling to select 363 senior secondary school students from six public and private schools in Niger State. Questionnaires served as the primary data collection tool, with data analysis relying on frequency counts and simple percentages. Among the study's findings, it was revealed that most of the schools surveyed possessed textbooks, reference materials, and CDs in their libraries. However, there was a notable shortage of video players and electronic resources. The study concluded by recommending the provision of relevant information resources to equip school libraries for technological advancement. It also underscored the importance of capacity building for librarians to enhance their ability to provide effective library services. Furthermore, strategies were suggested to improve literacy development and academic performance, such as promoting students' favourite books and learning materials and ensuring the availability of essential information resources for student use.Item The place User Study in Effective Library Administration(Ahmadu Bello University Press Limited, Zaria, 2024) M.A. SalubuyiItem Open Educational Resources Integration in Kwara State Colleges of Education, Nigeria(Journal of Information and Knowledge Management, 2024) Abduldayan, A. H; Jibril, F. N.This study investigates awareness, readiness, capacity training and challenges regarding the integration of Open Educational Resources (OER) in colleges of education in Kwara State, Nigeria. These colleges of education are: the College of Education Ilorin, College of Education Oro, and College of Education (Technical) Lafiagi. The study employed a mixed-method approach by combining quantitative data from a structured questionnaire with qualitative insights from semi-structured interviews, involving a sample of 72 participants drawn using a convenience sampling of lecturers from the three colleges of education in Kwara State. The findings revealed a moderate level of awareness (62.5%) about OER and its benefits; however, only 31.9% have received formal training in using and creating OER. Institutional readiness is identified as insufficient, with only 38.9% of respondents reporting adequate technical support for OER adoption. The study highlights significant gaps in capacity training and institutional support, which hinder effective OER utilisation. Recommendations include enhancing training programs, improving internet connectivity, and establishing robust institutional policies to enhance collaboration and sustainable OER integration. This research underscores the critical need for targeted interventions to bridge existing gaps and unlock the transformative potential of OER in enhancing educational access, quality, and equity in Kwara State.Item Revotionalising Education in Africa: The Impact of Immersive Technologies on Digital Literacy Programs in Academic Libraries(Proceedings of the Nigerian Library Association, Garden City 2024, held at the CBN Centre of Excellence, University of Portharcourt, Rivers State, 2024) Bulugu, P. H.The evolving landscape of education embraces immersive technologies like Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR), integrated into digital literacy initiatives in academic libraries to enhance learning experiences, though challenges such as resource allocation and accessibility persist. Interest is growing in Africa regarding the impact of these technologies on higher learning institutional libraries. This research aims to examine the implications of immersive technologies on educational paradigms within academic libraries in Nigeria and Tanzania. Through surveys, the study seeks to assess the current landscape of digital literacy programs, identify the availability and acceptance of immersive technologies, and explore the relationship between immersive technologies and digital literacy programs. The research also aims to provide recommendations for effectively integrating immersive technologies into digital literacy programs in academic libraries, contributing to the broader discourse on the role of libraries in advancing digital literacy and lifelong learning initiatives. By adopting the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a theoretical framework, the study intends to provide valuable insights into the factors influencing the successful deployment of immersive technologies in academic library environments.
