An Overview of Users Information Seeking Behaviour on Online Resources
(International Journal of Organization of Scientific Research Community of Researcher, 2014-02) Esew, Micheal; Makarfi, Aisha; Goshie, Rhoda Wusa; JImada, Aisha
This paper discuses online information seeking behavior of students for sustainable education among students of higher learning institutions. Online information seeking behavior is a relatively new phenomenon. However, it is the active process of obtaining data from the Web. Libraries and Universities are continuously adapting and seeking effective ways to respond to the fundamental and interconnected missions of research, teaching and community service, and that is why some have embraced the use of the Internet in service delivery. On the other hand, this study is more concerned with maximizing usage of this resource by students in fulfilling their primary aim of research and reaching out to these resources on the Internet using the requisite navigational skills. The paper says the Internet offers widespread access to electronic resources and also has the advantages of interactivity, and information tailoring. It also agrees that access is inequitable and use is hindered by navigational challenges due to numerous factors e.g. disorganization, technical language and lack of permanence. Meager information evaluation skills add to students' vulnerability. The paper highlights some information seeking models to assist students in their search for information on the Internet. Also it highlights the role of the library in the information seeking process of students. The paper concludes that though Information and communication technologies are being put in place for use by students, they must possess the requisite skill to use them appropriately.

Digital preservation Strategies in the Federal University Libraries in the North West Nigeria
(Kenya Library and Information Science Consortium (KLISC), 2022-05-25) Jimada, Aisha; Goshie, Rhoda Wusa; Jibril, Attahiru Alhassan
Digital preservation involves those activities that are carried out in libraries to protect their information resources that are born digital or those converted from analogue to digital form from loss and deterioration and to ensure long-term access to it despite the current changes in technology. This paper investigates the types of information resources digitized, the strategies used by the federal university libraries in North West Nigeria to preserve them so that they will remain accessible for use and reuse and the challenges facing it .Continuous access to digital information remain difficult even after they are preserved. A qualitative research method was adopted for the study; a purposive sampling technique was adopted and a structured interview was the instrument used to collect data for the study. The responses from the respondents were analyzed descriptively using tables. The result of the findings showed that theses, dissertations, preprint and post print journals are the common information resources digitise and preserved while refreshing and technology preservation are some of the strategies use , external hard drive is the storage media use . Erratic power is one of the challenges facing digital preservation. Based on the findings, the study concluded that digital preservation of information resources is carried out in the digitization unit of the libraries studied. Digitised resources are preserved in external hard discs, servers and most importantly in Institutional repositories. The paper recommended among others sensitization of Academic staff on the importance of uploading; normalization strategy should be adopted, proper maintenance of storage media should be adopted, use of cloud storage and adequate fund should be provided and policy should be developed

Descriptive statistics of frequency and percentage tabulation were used in analyzing the data. Results showed that most of the respondents 500 (55.6%) consult current information on recent developments in their field and preferred browsing the Internet when seeking information. The study equally revealed that the purpose of seeking information is mainly to prepare for their examinations; and Internet services, textbooks and, periodicals were mostly used when searching for information. Information management and utilisation for organizational efficiency in a digital age.
(Ibadan University press. Publishing house University of Ibadan, 2024) Gana, Leah Yebo
Information management is a vast and evolving field, covering everything from data governance to knowledge organization and retrieval. Information management involves collecting, organizing, controlling, processing, evaluating, and distributing information from diverse sources to various audiences. It encompasses all valuable data, whether internal or external to an organization, including resources like production data, personnel records, market research, and competitive intelligence. Information management concerns the control over how information is created, acquired, organized, stored, distributed, and used as a means of promoting, efficient and effective information access, processing, and use by people and organizations (Detlor, 2010). Information Management ensures the value, quality, ownership, use, and security of information, impacting organizational performance. It covers technical, operational, and social aspects, engaging individuals, networks, businesses, and governments. This process influences how information is organized, accessed, and utilized, guided by strategies and frameworks shaping its planning, application, and utilization. The University of Washington described information management in today’s knowledge economy, as an emerging field that is concerned with • The infrastructure used to collect, manage, preserve, store and deliver information • The guiding principles that allow information to be available to the right people at the right time • The view that all information, both digital and physical, is an asset that requires proper management • The organizational and social contexts in which information exists • The purpose of information management is to: design, develop, manage, and use information with insight and innovation and in addition support decision making and create value for individuals, organizations, communities, and societies. Organizations that can’t properly utilize their information assets risk serious failure. To proceed on explaining what information management is, there is need to explain the basics. Information management encompasses various practices, technologies, and strategies to handle information effectively throughout its lifecycle, which can be expressed in eight (8) key aspects. These includes: Data collection, storage and organisation, data governance, information retrieval, data analysis, knowledge sharing, information security and lifecycles management.
