Item Assessment of Motivational Factors for Workers Productivity Improvement in Construction Projects in Abuja(Environmental Technology & Science Journal, 2020-12-02) Ola-Awo, W.A., Olonilebi, P., Ganiyu, B.O. & Alumbugu, P.OThe target of any construction firm is to improve its productivity and organisational efficiency. Unfortunately, the productivity of construction operatives in Nigeria has been established to be very low and various studies also established that motivation influences productivity. The purpose of this study is to identify and assess the motivational factors for improving construction workers productivity from the perspective of difference stakeholders within Abuja. Questionnaire survey design approach was adopted the self-administration of questionnaires on project managers, supervisors and craftsmen on selected active construction project sites in Abuja was used for the study. Both stratified and purposive sampling techniques were employed in the study. Collected data were analysed using descriptive (such as frequency, percentile and Relative Importance Index (RII)) and inferential statistics (Spearman rank correlation). The findings revealed that timely payment of salary, promotion opportunity, proper recognition and rewards by the authority on the job, provision of good working environment (condition), and opportunity for career advancement/career improvement were the key motivational factors that improve productivity. There was a general agreement among project managers, supervisors, and site workers on the ranking of the motivational factors. The study concluded that when adequate attention is paid to these identified motivational factors should be reviewed regularly based on the productivity of the workers. The management needs to review salaries, working conditions and other benefits to workers from time to time and organise training and re-training to maintain constant productivity improvement.Item Application of lean manufacturing tools and techniques for waste reduction in Nigerian bricks production process(In Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management Journal @ Emerald Publishing Limited, 2019) Aka, A.; Isah, A. D.; Eze, C. J.; Timileyin, O.Purpose – Non-value adding activities or wastes in the lean term have been the major challenge of the construction industry. Numerous studies have been conducted to investigate how such wastes can be reduced so as to improve the performance of the construction industry. However, the aspect of bricks production process (BPP) has not been extensively covered. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the application of lean manufacturing concepts in BPP with a view to identifying the various wastes in the practice, the causes of these wastes and how such wastes can be reduced. Design/methodology/approach – Mixed methods research design was adopted by the researchers where literature review was first conducted to establish the fundamental theories and practice standards of lean manufacturing process. Thereafter, a phenomenological study was carried out in a Shelter Clay and Brick Factory located in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. The data obtained in the phenomenological study were analyzed through content analysis. These data served as the basis for the validation survey that subsequently followed the phenomenological study. Findings – The findings in the study show that poor or inadequate supervision is the main factor responsible for wastes such as excessive drying of bricks, overheating of bricks and re-glazing of bricks in Nigerian BPP. Research limitations/implications – The study focused on the various wastes in Nigerian BPP. It also focused on the various lean tools/techniques that can be adopted to reduce the wastes. Aspects such as the percentage of the wastes and their cost implication on the factory were not covered during the study and could be further investigated by prospective researchers. Practical implications – The study provides knowledge on how lean thinking can be adopted to reduce wastes in BPP. Such knowledge may be beneficial to the present and prospective bricks producers. This implies that the proposed framework in the study allows producers of bricks to identify gaps in their implementation efforts, focus attention on areas that may require improvements, and access the benefits of lean approach in their factory products. The proposed framework may also be beneficial to the academics. Originality/value – This paper first gain originality in the study context to propose for a lean framework that can be adopted to reduce wastes in BPP. Furthermore, the paper has not been previously published and all the information obtained from other sources are duly referenced.Item Effect of credit access on land productivity of rice farmers in Niger State, Nigeria.(Journal of Agripreneurship and Sustainable Development, 2019-07) Ibrahim, F.D., Oseghale, A.I. and Ogaji, A.The study examined the effect of credit access on land productivity of rice farmers in Niger State, Nigeria. Cross sectional survey was used to collect data from 175 rice farmers selected through a systematic sampling procedure. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, and linear regression. The results showed that the mean output/ha, farm size and age were 3275 kg/ha, 1.75 ha and 45 years, respectively. The amount of credit obtained was about N16, 718. The regression analysis revealed that 60% of the variation in the yield was as a result of the variables included in the model. Also, Seed (p< 0.01), fertilizer (p< 0.05) and pesticides (p< 0.10) had significant and positive effect on land productivity while credit, extension contact and education had negative effect on land productivity. The study concluded that seeds, fertilizers and pesticides were the main factors that could increase land productivity in the study area and thus recommends timely supply of these inputs.Item Perceived Influence of ICT and Work Environmental Productivity of Library Personnel in Colleges of Education in Niger State, Nigeria(A Publication of the University Library, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2023-06-24) DOGARA Ladan, ABUBAKAR Fati, ANGO Abubakar Aliyu, AKAWULami, YUSUF Ladan Fatima, ADAMU Mohammed SabaThis study investigated the perceived influence of Information Communication Technology and the work environment on the productivity of library personnel in college education libraries in Niger State, Nigeria. Four research objectives guided the study. A descriptive survey research design was used for this study.
