Item SPATIAL VARIATIONS IN RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT IN BIRNINKEBBI, NIGERIA(BAHIR DAR UNIVERSITY, ETHIOPIA, 2015) OGUNBAJO, R. A.; AJAYI, M. T. A.; USMAN B. S.; WALI R. IShelter is a basic necessity of man. The location and spatial distribution of residential accommodation across towns and cities are however subject to a variety of factors. This study aimed at analysing spatial variations in residential property development across BirninKebbi. The relevant population comprised housing units in three (3) major areas. Primary data were obtained through interactions and interviews conducted with residents of the study area as well as questionnaire administered. A comprehensive survey of the area was also carried out and observations were noted. Analysis of data was done using simple descriptive statistics. The study revealed that household level of income is the most prominent factor considered by 53% of residents of Patrick Aziza when choosing areas for residential property development, while proximity to work place is the most influential factor for 50% of Gesse residents. In Badariya, residential location choices are most influenced by religious and ethnic affiliations (30%), security of eighbourhood (29%), and cost of land (27%). The study further revealed varied intensities in residential property development across the three sampled areas and explained reasons for these variations. In addition, the implications of residential expansion in the study area was thoroughly examined, while emphasizing the need for appropriate measures to ensure that the health, safety and wellbeing of inhabitants are not compromised in an attempt to fulfill the housing needs of the people.Item Assessment of Factors Affecting Urban Planning and Physical Development in South-Western Nigeria(Advances in Multidisciplinary and Scientific Research, 2016-12-05) Sulyman, A.O.; Medayese, S.O.The state of the physical environment in the urban centers is a major source of global concern. This is more evident. In third-world countries like Nigeria. The population growth in the cities has led to physical expansion of the cities beyond their limits. This growth is faced with challenges such as deficiencies ho~slng, Infrast~ucture and outlook. Control of development is therefore paramount to physical planning. This research aimed at assessing the factors affecting urban planning in south-western, Nigeria 2003 and 2013. It explored the perception of residents to physical planning and factors that affects physical planning and urban development. The methodology adopted for this study collectsdata from both primary and secondary sources. 207 questionnaires were administered to respondentsfrom selected states. The agency responsible physical planning, administration in the state was also considered. Random sampling was used in administering the questionnaires. Result from the study indicated that factors such as awareness, funding, corruption, low level enforcement of physical development policies and cumbersome nature of plan approval has been ~n imp.e~im~ntto. physical Planning. It is therefore recommended that advocacy planning and community partlclpatl?n~III helpt.o stem down the challenge often associated with physical planning in urban centers. this Will provde opportunity to have effective and sustainable planned physical environment that is good for bothpresent and future generation.Item Design and Performance Evaluation of a Portable Solar Water Heater(Journal of Digital Innovations & Contemporary Research in Science, Engineering & Technology, 2022-03-20) Bori Ige; Uwah, E. J.; Bako, .S.; Okegbile, O. J.; Ayo, S. A.This paper presents design and performance evaluation of a solar water heater (SWH) using thermosyphon principles, thereby eliminating the use of electric water pump and reducing the cost of the entire system. There are many phenomena encouraging the application of solar water heating technology such as; electric power outage, high fuel price, rapid urbanization, low cost of installations, and governmental intervention. Therefore, there is need to encourage innovation in the field of solar technology. The design of this system was done using relevant equations to obtain the required dimensions of the various components of the system. The materials were selected based on design calculations, machining, availability and material cost. During the testing process, the first three days of testing the highest outlet temperature recorded was 650C. For the last three days of testing during the dry season, the highest outlet temperature recorded was 79.3 0C. The results showed that the system performs better during the dry season when the irradiance levels are higher. The highest irradiance recorded was 940 W/m2 on the sixth day of testing. The highest efficiency recorded from the system was 68.19% on the fourth day of testing. It is hereby recommended that, sensor and a flow meter should be installed for determining water level and for easy identification of flow rate.
