Item ACCESS TO COMMUNICATION BASED TECHNOLOGY AS A PANACEA FOR KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT AMONG FACULTY OFFICERS IN AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY, ZARIA, KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA(Pakistan Librarians Welfare Organization (PLWO), 2022-09-15) Suleiman, Hussaini; Goshie, Rhoda Wusa; Jaafar, Sani; Jimada, AishaThis article was undertaken to investigate Access to Communication based Technology as a Panacea for Knowledge Management among Faculty Officers in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. The study was guided by two research questions and objectives. The research methodology was purely quantitative and a descriptive research design was used. The study population includes 108 Faculty Officers in the five Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Schools, Shika Zaria. Yamani's formula was used to determine the target population sample of 91 respondents. A questionnaire was used to collect data. A simple random sampling method was used as the sampling method to collect data from the study area. The tool was subjected to face and content validity. The pilot study was conducted at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria’s main campus, which was outside the key study areas but with similar characteristics, and was also tested for reliability using a split- half test, and obtained a reliability coefficient of 0.81. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Statistical Package for Social Science version 21.0. Among other things, the results of the study showed that the greater part of respondents indicated that email, online relay chats, Internet telephony, instant messaging, web services, and video conferencing were the types of Internet facilities or services required and accessible for Ahmadu Bello University Faculty Officers Shika Zaria Most respondents indicated that some of the factors that discourage the use of Internet facilities by Faculty Officers are lack of Internet access and inappropriate research on Internet skills. It recommended, among other things, that the management of Ahmadu Bello University Hospital, Shika, Zaria, should make more computer systems available to the Faculty Officers in the various schools of the institution to allow them unproblematic access to the Internet facilities.Item Library Resources for the Visually Handicapped in Kaduna State: A Case study of Kaduna North Local Government Area(Faculty of Education and Extension Services, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto. Nigeria, 2018-02) Goshie, Rhoda Wusa; Jimada, Aisha; Hassan, Hadizatu; Adedokun, Aderonke Olubukola; Shehu, KokamiThe research work was on library resources for the visually handicapped in Kaduna state. The work gave the definition of a handicapped as individuals who lack and have a defective functioning of any body part. It also listed the categories of physical disabilities which include: visual disabilities, hearing disabilities, mental health disabilities and intellectual disabilities. It also listed the library resources which include: Braille embossers, braille alphabets, braille duplicators and braille audio. Literature were reviewed based on the topic of study. A questionnaire containing 7 (seven) items were designed and used for the study. Interviews were also conducted for the school librarian, staff and the students using an interview guide. Results of findings revealed that the library resources for the visually handicapped are not current and are not also sufficient for the students due to majorly lack of funds. Recommendations such as the provision of funds and the training of the staff and students on how to access the various library resources to be able to meet with the challenges of this twenty first century in librarianship were given.Item Factors Influencing Attitude of Teacher Librarians Toward Information Technology in Kaduna State(Ahmadu Bello University Library Complex, A.B.U. Zaria. Nigeria, 2015) Gwari, Williams Habiba; Esew, Micheal; Goshie, Rhoda Wusa; Jimada, AishaThe study aimed at examining the factors that influence the attitude of teacher librarians toward information technology in Kaduna State Secondary Schools. Survey research method was adopted. The study population comprises all the five hundred and four (504) schools. Out of this population two hundred and sixty- four (264) was used as sample size for the study. Questionnaire was the instruments used for data collection. The data collected were presented and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study found that teacher librarians have positive attitude toward information technology as shown from the respondents who opined that information technology can enhance student learning. The study also found that the possible constraints which tend to have unanimous consensus among the respondents were inadequate trainings on the job, lack of access to technology, poor infrastructure/ social facilities and the epileptic power supply which adversely limit use of the technologies in secondary schools. The inferential analysis showed that the constraints to information technology usage in the secondary schools are positively correlated with the attitude of the teacher librarians towards the information technology use for teaching and learning in the schools. The study concluded that inadequacy of information technology resources, lack of confidence, anxiety, inadequate training, and lack of access to technology, poor infrastructure/ social facilities and epileptic power supply were some of the constraints that significantly influence the teacher librarians’ attitude towards information technology usage in the schools.Item How Gender and Cultural Issues Affect Access to Global Information as a Tool for Development Particularly in Developing Countries(Library and Information Sensitization Vanguard of Nigera(LISVN) in Collaboration with the Department of Library and Information Sciencs, A.B.U. Therefore, infrastructure of internet connectivity and the use of internet is an essential access channel for global information especially in developing countries. Gender is the relationships between men and women while culture is a system of knowledge shared by a relatively large group of people. Issues of gender inequality and culture such as cultural gender norms such as patriarchal structure, economic dependence on men, domestic roles and responsibilities poses hindrance to accessing information, inadequate or total lack of information makes women and girls have limited influence over resources in society and this has been a serious barrier when trying to get a clear picture of access to global information in developing countries. However, the author critically examined gender issues such as digital divide, cost of the internet and exclusion of women in terms of technology utilization. It further discusses critically on cultural issues as a way of life and believes of people in relation to access to global information society. The paper also highlighted the impact of information technology on women work such as helping the women to advance in technology and also creating new job through the information and communication technology. The paper went further to discuss the obstacles of women's access to global information such as low levels of education, illiteracy, low economic status and language. The paper also listed the economic empowerment through information and communication technology such as farming, trade and entrepreneurship and the paper concluded by discussing the challenges and issues to the access to global information in developing countries such as lack of electricity, inadequate ICT infrastructure, maintenance and expansion of computer networks, maintenance and expansion of computer and lack of holistic approach to infrastructure creation
