S.; Sanni, L.; Popoola, A.A.; Akogun, O.; Medayese, S.O.; Adeleye, B.M.To reduce the national housing deficit in Nigeria, numerous government housing estates were constructed and allocated for people to reside. Government housing estates in Nigeria are now characterized by gross discomfort due poor state of the infrastructures. This study appraised the involvement of Community-Based Organisation in the provision of infrastructural facilities in Mandate Housing Estate, Ilorin, Kwara State. Questionnaires were administered to officials of the Kwara State Housing Corporation and committee members of the CommunityBased Organisations in the estate. Findings reveal that communal involvement led to the provision of culverts, parking facility, walkway, and streetlight while the utilities and services provided by associations also include electric pole, electric transformers, waste disposal, deepwell, borehole, and security. The involvement strategies in community development projects by the associations include resource mobilization, special levy, physical participation, and payment of the regular levy. In contrast, factors influencing residents' participation in community projects include affordability to pay, the influence of neighbours and households, and the suitability of projects. Among the recommendations made for improved infrastructural facilities through community-based organisation are upgrading of amenities in the housing schemes, the connection of the schemes to public water mains, spatial control and review of developmental plan in the estates and housing schemes.Item The application of geographic information system as an intelligent system towards emergency responses in road traffic accident in Ibadan(Journal of Transport and Supply Chain Management, 2021-03-04) Audu, A. A.; Adeleye, B.M.; Medayese, S.O; Choene Mosima; Nunyi BlamahBackground: The high influx of private and public vehicles within global cities (including Ibadan) has resulted in traffic congestion within the city centre. Ibadan North-East, an urban local government area (LGA) within the metropolitan land area of Ibadan, has been experiencing automobile accidents and traffic congestion which in turn limits emergency responders. Objectives: The broad objective of the study was to develop a digital road network database for emergency response to road traffic accident, Ibadan North East, Nigeria. Methods: This study made use of primary and secondary data to generate spatial and nonspatial data. ArcGIS 10.3 was used to create the database, analyse data and display the results. Spatial search and network analysis were carried out using a kernel density estimated tool to generate a black-spot area within Ibadan North-East. Dijkstra’s shortest path algorithm in the ArcGIS Network Analysis was utilised to identify the closest health facility to the road traffic crash scene. Results: The most cost-effective haven introduced route impedance and is defined as the best route. Study findings show that dynamic distance varies from the best route to an alternative route. Also, kernel density estimation reveals that crashes widely occur in the northeastern and southwestern parts of Ibadan North-East (Iwo Road and Orita-Aperin). Incorporating live traffic data using GPS technology and traffic cameras was identified to enhance road traffic data documentation and safety. Conclusion: The study identifies GIS as a decision support system that is useful in the area of planning, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery for decision-making in road trafficrelated emergency management and emergency planning services in Ibadan.Item USERS’ PERCEPTION OF URBAN PARKS AND GREEN NETWORKS IN IBADAN(SINGAPOREAN JOuRNAl Of buSINESS EcONOmIcS, ANd mANAGEmENt StudIES, 2016-05-05) Popoola, A.A.; Medayese, S.O.; Olaniyan, O.M.; Onyemenam, P.I.; Adeleye, B.M.The appearance and outlook of a city are defined by many spatial elements. Urban gardens form an integral component of such spatial elements. Urban gardens help provide a framework on which eco-friendly environment and sustainable development lies. The aesthetic, air quality purification and therapeutic benefits that these gardens provide cannot be over-emphasized. However, many of these gardens lack the infrastructure that could make them function and meet international standards. The aim of this study is to examine the users’ perception of urban parks and green network in Ibadan. The specific objectives are to: investigate the various factors that determine the outlook of urban gardens; map out the locations of the urban gardens; appraise the current condition of the gardens and green infrastructure; and recommend appropriate measures for mitigating the current challenges affecting the identified gardens and parks. Data was gathered through the random sampling of 189 questionnaires. Geospatial analysis was used to map out the various locations of the existing gardens, and it revealed that the gardens are clustered along some local government areas. From the study, 52.4% of the respondents argued that some of the urban gardens lack complementary facilities or are in poor states. In view of the identified challenges, and the potentials of urban gardens improve the Ibadan cityscape, it is imperative for city planners, urban managers, and public authorities to commence a process of revitalizing the existing urban gardens and also establish a new garden with a view toward exploring its economic and ecological benefits.
